Covilhã is a city in the centre of Portugal, on the door step of the “Serra da Estrela” mountain range. The city has a very rich past, but today is a cosmopolitan and vibrant area with its university, nightclubs, restaurants and bars. Covilhã is located on the south-eastern slopes of the mountains, near to the highest point of continental Portugal – the 'Torre' which stands at 2000 metres. There are many historical sites of interest in the region as well as wine and fruit production areas, and a high proportion of goat and sheep farming.
